Happy 4th of July!
This is a time when we consider all we have fought to create and protect as a country and as a beacon to others around the world. Being an American means so much: how much we come together when times are tough and how we find solutions to problems. We are creative, caring, industrious and practical. In the past three months, we have needed to do things we never thought we would do. Families have been holding conversations to build bridges between racial, religious, and socio-economic groups have sparked an idea that we are all in this together. We are not alone, while we gather with six feet between us.
In the past month I realized we have an issue impacting our Seniors that I need to request help from you: Healthcare professionals are using tools to host telemedicine. The issue is what is telemedicine? The official definition is that it uses the telecommunications network to connect with video. This could be text, websites, or mobile phones. Seniors and their adult children may not have realized they could get these tools loaded to their mobile phones to get help should an emergency happen while they are puttering around their homes.
This came to my attention a few weeks ago when I received a text from a former neighbor of mine: having access to a video conference tool loaded to Seniors’ mobile phones. This is a safety issue. It could be the difference between life and death. Imagine after a fall, they call their doctor advising of a broken arm, yet no one thinks to check for a concussion. This can be discovered if a senior has access to video conferencing tools like BlueJeans by Verizon or Zoom.
This is a safety issue. It could be the difference between life and death.
After receiving a text from a former neighbor, I shared this in an article:

This is not as easy as you would think. My neighbor asked me to write out the steps to download the app to their smart phone to get a video conference app loaded to a Seniors phone onto a flyer. There are too many options between phone types and other considerations.
- Requires a smartphone or a Grandpad. This is a tool to be loaded to your smart phone. Accidents and health issues usually do not happen while sitting behind a desktop computer or laptop.
- Video goes through a lot of bandwidth.
- Download needed. For those who are not tech savvy, downloading the app can be very stressful. Try following the instructions from a video on the internet for your phone type.
- Know your cellphone number and email. If Seniors don’t know their cellphone number or email, that adds additional stress while they learn where to find it.
If you or your family members need help with getting the tool downloaded, I’m happy to help you get set up. If I need to do it in person, I will request a small fee. Otherwise, if you are open to having me help download the app remotely, I will be happy to help.

Miller Mediation and Solution – in the News
I wrote a blog that got picked up by NAIPC (National Aging in Place Council) this month. I share ideas about how to offset loneliness and staying in touch with and for seniors.
Our Family Encounter TM is now officially recognized by the US Patent and Trademark Office!
One final announcement:
Miller Mediation and Solution has moved to be a 100% remote workplace. Videoconferencing is central to the work I provide to my clients. Since I work with Solo Seniors and families who live all over the country, I need to put my clients at ease, be safe and help them find solutions to the issues that come up during aging and guide families during difficult times. My phone number and great service will remain the same.
