This plan is ideal for families who are in the ‘forgotten middle’ and those who want to “age in place”. This solution allows older adults to remain in the driver’s seat and pay their loved ones for their care and support. Solo Seniors benefit from this service to keep their caregivers accountable. Family members who leave their jobs to provide care, this solution provides them an income and potentially benefits. Financial legacies are passed on when older adults are alive rather than only after the closure of their estate.

For the family with significant assets. Cost varies on estate.

This concept involves turning your personal estate into a business entity. To create this as a solution, families will need to have professional guidance from their attorney, financial planner, and tax professional to make sure the business is structured appropriately for local and state guidelines and laws. All businesses require regular meetings, for which Our Family Encounter Aging Concierge will coordinate.

As with all businesses, this structure requires each officer to have a specified role to fulfill. The originator of the Family Caregiving Limited Liability Corp (FCLLC) will be the Managing Partner and always have final say unless there is a medical and legal determination of incapacity. The advantage of an FCLLC is that decisions can be made daily rather than relying on the details of a will or trust, which is effective the day the document is signed. Our Family Encounter Aging Concierge will oversee the meetings. We will be a silent advisor to the other officers but will require an accounting of care and services provided like the Family Caregiving Agreement (FCA) and record of care. Our Family Encounter will also assist the family and advisors to make sure all legal, tax and payroll issues are managed.

This is a formal solution for families with more significant wealth and assets. Our Family Encounter Aging Concierge support will remain intact through the closure of probate or the trust.

At the end of this process, Our Family Encounter provides the following Aging concierge services:

  • Receive all services available from the FCA
  • Creation, maintenance, and closure of the business
  • Lead regular family meetings
  • Verify business recordkeeping and taxes are maintained and filed
  • Officers receive wages and benefits

The FCLLC is a hybrid of a Family Limited Partnership offered to for high wealth families with properties and businesses and the family caregiving agreement. This process requires self-funding your own business with assets, properties, and savings as collateral. Legal guidance will provide guidance to avoid probate and might be tax advantaged. Having the right advisors to make this happen and to provide cost-benefit analysis is crucial. As this process requires time to put into place, we suggest having this conversation with guidance from a third party, such as Our Family Encounter, to coordinate and oversee the process.

Legacy

Capture your personal story. What events or people did you interact with during your life? Also consider how you will pass on your legacy, whether it is financial or in personal property or your passwords and safety box key. Consider organizing this part of your life so you can transition your life with dignity, honor and grace.

End of Life

Everyone needs to have a funeral. Yet it is the one topic no one wants to discuss. Consider two things: how you die is the last lesson you teach your loved ones and it is the last decision you will ever make. Preparing and paying for your funeral so your survivors the best inheritance you can provide.

Socialization

COVID has brought an awareness to isolation for the senior community as many chose to shelter in place. Technology can help with getting support or interacting with others, yet almost half of seniors do not have an email. Most technology solutions require an email. Curtailing depression and self-neglect caused by isolation is a top priority this winter.

Wellness

Many associate healthy aging with wellness. Yet many services are not covered by Medicare: dental, hearing aids, prescriptions, home health services, access to technology like cellphones or computers to connect to others if you are isolated in your homes or at the clinic or hospital. Diet, exercise and the number of disabilities you have determines your quality of life.

Legal

Having a current will or trust , healthcare directive and choosing who can speak on your behalf for financial and health concerns can only be done with the guidance of an attorney. Consider, if you have COVID and there is one ventilator between you and another patient, what are your wishes? Make sure your will is updated to reflect your current circumstances.

Financial

One wealth advisor calls retirement the go-go years, the slo-go years and the no-go years. Know how to fund each of these stages. According to a 2019 study by Northwestern Mutual, 21% of Americans have no savings, 10% have less than $5,000 saved and an additional third have less than $25,000 saved.

Housing

Choosing where to live if you are unable to age in your home. What can you afford? Do you have family or a strong social network? What services are available to you? What happens if you run out of money or experience an emergency? Is your home safe to live in?
